In the food sector, pepper has played a very major part especially in the seasoning and flavourings sectors. It has seen tremendous growth in the past decade not only in terms of value but also in terms of development of new products and processes. The demand for food ingredients that add flavour, aroma and colour to foods has increased as food habits have changed; snack foods, fast foods, ethnic foods, frozen and other ready to cook meals, healthy meals with low sugar and salt, all these are trends that have contributed to this demand. With increasing demands of value added pepper products, Malaysian Pepper Board has played a very convincing role to produce and develop pepper products for the food sector such as:
.Garlic Pepper
.Green Peppercorns in vinegar
.Pepper Sweets
.Pepper Cheese Cookies
.Black Pepper Sauce
.Black Pepper Marinade
.5 Seasons Pepper
.Green Pepper Sauce
9. Green Pepper Sambal
.Soup Blend
.Ginger Pepper
.Lemon Grass Pepper
.Soft Pepper Candy
.Green Pepper in Brine
.Pepper Keropok
However, some of these pepper products have been taken up and commercialized by local medium enterprises such as SaraSpice (marketing arm of Malaysian Pepper Board), Sarawak Produces Industries Company (SPIC), Nam Bee, Wan Zhang, Sarper, Pawada and Borneo Agro Specialty Foods. Other than inviting more active participations from local medium enterprises to commercialise the products and improving the economy as a whole, it also improves the world perception on the diversified usage of pepper especially in the food sector.
